The narrator says the snakes are poisonous. This is incorrect. They are venomous -i.e., injected via fangs. I was raised in the Mormon church (now atheist). I twice attended a Pentecostal meeting as a guest bagpiper. Compared to the deathly seriousness Mormon meetings, it was a real culture shock. It must be really interesting to se a 319 lb bagpiper running through knee-deep snow to get away! These snake handlers seem to me to be guilty of cruelty to animals (the snakes).

Biblical ignorance on full display at this church. If you listen carefully, you will notice that these misguided people base their hope of salvation primarily on their own works of righteousness. Sure, they talk about Jesus Christ a lot, but they have clearly rejected the biblical Truth of faith alone in the finished work of Jesus Christ alone being entirely enough to save anyone. This is why they do what they do. That female preacher at the ten minute mark, by her own testimony, said she "GAVE her life" to God when she was 16 years old and then boasted of her own success in "shunning the sins of her youth" and then tells her listeners that she was "forgiven of God" because of it. This is biblical ignorance. She really needs to read Ephesians 2: 8-9. We all are entirely contaminated by sin. We have absolutely nothing to offer a perfectly Holy God! This is why He did everything to save us and offers every living person salvation purely by grace and only through faith. Thankfully these freaks have only managed to mislead a microscopic percentage of the population with their false doctrines.

Has anyone heard of Hermeneutics, the rules for interpretation. Yes there are rules and the first rule in Hermeneutics is Audience Relevance. What relevance did the message have to the original audience. We are reading their mail. We are to apply the principles but the physical events, signs and wonders were for them not us. Until the New Testament was completed they needed these supernatural signs to prove they were from God. They also could raise the dead, do you see any doing that ? Ever? Of course not because this isn't how God works today, His word and Gospel is the power to change lives and that is what He desires today. I was raised in this church. I’m the little boy. My dad is holding in the front. Toward the end, uncle Ray is been dead for over 20 years. Grandma Violet been dead 20+ years. Bill Spencer has a church in coal city, West Virginia. Butch White is still preaching in the same church in Besoco , West Virginia. His wife Judy died a few years ago. He has a big Christian school and does a lot for the community. I know one thing I was raised up with the Lord and I know he works in my life every day and I believe in Jesus and he is the same day yesterday and forever he still can heal the sick And raise the dead !! Faith tiny as mustard. Seeds will move mountains.

Those church's that handle snakes are nothing but a cult.

I don't practice snake handling but I wonder how many folks that don't like the snakes would be ok with one of these saints laying hands on them to heal them. That was a beautiful service. Those believers are affectionate and supportive with one another. I learned a lot about their faith from the Pastor.

I understand why the Biblical text can be taken literal by some people. My take on it is that a believer and faithrul of Christ will not die if bitten by a poisonous snake or if given poison as an act of aggression. It does not mean that we should go out and dare do this to prove God's word. This is not what the Word of God is instruting us to do. The word also tells us Proverbs 22:3: "A prudent man seeth the evil, and hideth himself; But the simple pass on, and suffer for it"
